What to expect on the day of removal and how to prepare your item

Last Updated: January 2026

When using the Removal & Recycling service, knowing what to expect on the day helps ensure everything runs smoothly alongside delivery.

Removal takes place during your scheduled delivery appointment with Land of Beds, rather than as a separate visit.

This article explains what happens on the day of removal, how items should be prepared, and the situations where removal may not be possible.

When Does Removal Take Place?

Removal and recycling are carried out at the same time as your delivery.

When your new bed or mattress is delivered, the delivery team will collect the old item that has been booked for removal.

Removal does not take place before or after delivery and cannot be arranged separately.

How Should Items Be Ready for Collection?

For removal to go ahead, items must be ready when the delivery team arrives.

Old beds and mattresses should be prepared in advance so they can be collected safely and efficiently.

If a bed frame or divan base needs dismantling, this must be completed before delivery day.

Items must be accessible and ready to be removed without delay. Access requirements are explained in our property access requirements guide

Where Should Items Be Positioned?

Items booked for removal should be kept inside the property and positioned so they can be collected at the time of delivery.

Items left outside, in outbuildings, or in locations that cannot be accessed safely may not be collected.

When Might Removal Not Be Completed?

In some situations, removal may not be possible on the day.

This can happen if:

  • The item is not ready or accessible
  • The item differs from what was booked for removal
  • The item poses a safety or hygiene risk

If removal cannot be completed, delivery of your new bed or mattress can still go ahead.

Why Preparation Matters

Preparing items correctly helps ensure:

  • Removal can be completed during delivery
  • Delays are avoided
  • Collections are carried out safely

Understanding what needs to be ready in advance helps set clear expectations for the day of delivery.

Common Questions About the Day of Removal

Do I need to be at home for removal?

Yes. Removal takes place during delivery, so someone must be present to allow access.

Do I need to dismantle the bed myself?

Yes. Beds and divan bases should be dismantled before delivery day if required.

What happens if removal can’t be completed?

If removal cannot go ahead, delivery will still take place. What happens next is explained in our Refused removal guide.

When Things Can Vary
