Your Nectar mattress is delivered vacuum-packed and rolled for convenience. This guide explains how to unpack, allow it to expand, and care for your memory foam mattress to ensure long-lasting comfort and support.
Moving Your Boxed Mattress
Your mattress arrives rolled and compressed inside protective packaging. It may be easier to move if you remove it from the outer box first.
- Take care when lifting, the mattress is heavy.
- Move the mattress close to the bed base before unrolling.
If available, two people are recommended for safe handling.
Opening Your Mattress
Remove the outer plastic wrapping and carefully position the mattress on your bed base before opening the inner vacuum seal.
Important: Take care not to pierce or cut the mattress fabric when removing the packaging.
Allow It to Expand
Once unwrapped and placed on the bed base, your Nectar mattress will begin expanding immediately.
- You can usually sleep on it within 3–5 hours.
- Full expansion can take 24–48 hours.
- The mattress may expand up to approximately 24cm in depth.
This expansion time is normal for vacuum-packed memory foam mattresses.
Make Sure Your Base Is Ready
If using a slatted bed base, ensure the slats are no more than 7cm apart. Wider gaps may affect support and could cause the mattress to sag.
A solid platform base is also suitable, provided it is structurally sound and level.
Ventilate Your Room
Nectar mattresses are made from memory foam and may have a light “new product” smell when first opened.
- This is normal and not harmful.
- Ventilate the room to help any odour dissipate.

Ongoing Care & Maintenance
Rotate regularly
We recommend rotating your mattress every 3 months (head-to-foot) to help maintain even wear.
Use a mattress protector
To keep your mattress fresh and reduce staining risk, use a breathable mattress protector.
Do not wash the cover
The mattress cover is not removable for washing. Spot-clean only if necessary and avoid soaking the fabric.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sleep on my Nectar mattress straight away?
Yes. While full expansion takes up to 48 hours, you can usually sleep on the mattress within 3–5 hours of unboxing.
Why does my new mattress have a smell?
A slight odour is normal when memory foam is first unpacked. This will fade with ventilation.
How often should I rotate my Nectar mattress?
Rotate every 3 months to promote even wear and long-term comfort.
