Hypnos Mattress Care Guide | Turning Instructions & Maintenance Advice
How to care for your Hypnos mattress, divan base and topper, including turning guidance and slatted base requirements.
Last Updated: February 2026
Hypnos beds are handcrafted using high-quality natural materials and pocket springs to provide long-lasting comfort and support. Following the correct care guidance will help maintain performance and protect your 10-year guarantee.
Upon Delivery
- Your mattress or topper may have compressed slightly during transportation. This is normal and it will soon resume its natural shape.
- Once unwrapped, leave the mattress uncovered for a few hours to allow it to breathe.
- A slight natural odour may be noticeable initially. This will dissipate with airing.
- The sleep surface uses unbleached cotton, so you may notice natural cotton seeds within the weave.
Use a Suitable Supportive Base
- A new mattress should not be used on an old sprung divan or worn bedstead.
- If using a slatted base, slats must be no more than 7.5cm (3 inches) apart.
- If slats are wider than 7.5cm, use a bedstead mattress base between slats and mattress.
An unsuitable base may result in premature wear and could invalidate your guarantee.
Divan Base Care
- Drawers are designed for lightweight items only.
- Maximum weight: 20kg per standard drawer, 7kg per continental drawer.
- Check screws for castors, feet, linking bars and headboard regularly.
- Use castor cups on wooden floors.
Protecting Your Mattress
We strongly recommend using a cotton or wool-faced mattress protector.
- Avoid plastic or non-breathable protectors.
- Failure to use a protector may invalidate the guarantee.
Body Impressions – What’s Normal?
Body impressions are a normal and expected characteristic of Hypnos mattresses. The generous comfort fillings settle in response to your weight and sleeping pattern.
You may notice:
- Gentle dipping where you sleep
- A slight ridge in the centre (especially in larger sizes)
This does not affect support or comfort. Regular rotation and turning will minimise uneven settlement.
Rotating & Turning Your Hypnos Mattress
Turning encourages even settlement of upholstery fillings.
For Turnable Mattresses
-
Turn and rotate once a week for the first 3 months.
-
After 3 months, turn and rotate seasonally.
No Turn Mattresses
-
Rotate end-to-end weekly for the first 3 months.
-
Thereafter rotate seasonally.
Pillow Top Mattresses
-
Rotate end-to-end weekly for the first 3 months.
-
Rotate seasonally thereafter.
-
Deeper body impressions are expected due to pillow top design.
Zipped Mattresses
Unfasten before rotating or turning.
Important Safety Notes
- Do not attempt to turn the mattress alone.
- Do not bend or roll the mattress.
- Do not lift using the handles (they are for positioning only).
Airing Your Mattress
Air weekly by turning back bed linen for a few hours to allow moisture to dissipate.
Cleaning Your Mattress
- Brush every other month using a soft brush.
- Do not vacuum.
- Treat spills immediately with dry towels.
- Do not use detergents or chemical cleaners.
Usage Guidance
- Avoid sitting on the edge for prolonged periods.
- Do not stand or jump on the bed.
- Do not remove sewn-in labels (required for guarantee).
