Harrison Spinks Mattress Care Guide | Turning Instructions & Guarantee Information

How to care for your Harrison Spinks mattress, including rotation schedules, natural settlement guidance and warranty support.

Last Updated: February 2026

Harrison Spinks mattresses are handmade in Yorkshire using responsibly sourced natural materials and pocket springs. With proper care, your mattress will maintain comfort and support for many years.

At Land of Beds, we are an authorised Harrison Spinks retailer. We provide genuine products, expert advice and ongoing aftercare support to help you protect your investment from day one.

On Delivery

When your Harrison Spinks mattress arrives:

  • Take care when lifting to avoid injury or damage.

  • Seek assistance when moving, turning or rotating your mattress.

  • Use the handles for positioning only — not for carrying long distances.

  • Leave the mattress uncovered in a well-ventilated room for a few hours after unwrapping.

Harrison Spinks pocket spring mattresses are heavy due to their natural fillings and spring systems. Two people are recommended when handling.

If you selected our delivery and removal service, our team can also responsibly remove and recycle your old mattress at the same time.

Natural Fillings & 12-Week Settlement Period

Harrison Spinks mattresses contain natural comfort fillings such as wool and cotton. These materials may have a light natural scent when new — this is normal and reflects the chemical-free composition.

To allow proper settlement:

  • Air the mattress in a well-ventilated room.

  • Leave bedding turned back daily.

Any natural scent will dissipate over the first 12 weeks, which is considered the mattress settlement period.

Mattress Dimensions & Tolerances

Each Harrison Spinks mattress is handmade to metric dimensions. A tolerance of ±2cm is within recognised industry standards.

During transportation, mattresses may temporarily contract slightly but will relax to their intended size once in use.

Protecting Your Mattress

Harrison Spinks recommend using a good-quality cotton or wool-faced mattress protector.

  • Air the mattress regularly.

  • Leave bedding folded back to allow moisture to evaporate.

  • Waterproof protectors may be used, but ensure they are breathable to avoid condensation damage.

Using a protector helps maintain hygiene and supports long-term warranty eligibility.

Cleaning Your Harrison Spinks Mattress

To keep your mattress fresh:

  • Remove dust and fluff every few months using a soft brush.

  • Never vacuum the mattress, even with a mattress attachment.

  • Absorb spillages immediately with a dry cloth or paper towel.

  • If needed, sponge gently with mild soap and water only.

Avoid harsh detergents or chemical cleaners.

Using a Suitable Supportive Base

Using the correct base is essential for support and longevity.

If placing your mattress on an existing base:

  • Ensure the base is structurally sound.

  • Replace worn or damaged bases where necessary.

  • Slatted bases must have gaps of no more than 75mm apart.

  • If slat gaps exceed 75mm, consider adding extra slats or a suitable baseboard.

An unsuitable base may affect mattress performance and warranty coverage.

If you are unsure whether your current base is appropriate, our team at Land of Beds can advise before or after delivery.

Body Impressions – What’s Normal?

Body impressions are a natural feature of handmade mattresses.

Because most people sleep in the same position:

  • Upholstery may settle more where you sleep.

  • A slight ridge may form in the centre.

This is part of the mattress adapting to your body — similar to how leather footwear forms natural contours.

Regular rotation and turning will help promote even settlement.

Rotating & Turning Your Harrison Spinks Mattress

Always check the sewn-in label to confirm whether your mattress is:

  • Non-turn / rotate only / pillow top

  • Turnable / seasonal turn

  • Zip & Link

  • Dual firmness

Rotating a Non-Turn Mattress

If labelled non-turn or rotate only:

  • Rotate weekly for the first 12 weeks.

  • Rotate monthly thereafter.

Non-Turn Zip & Link

  • Unzip and rotate both mattresses 180°.

  • Do not turn them over.

One-Piece Dual Firmness (No Zip)

  • Rotating requires partners to swap sides if they wish to maintain firmness preference.

Turning a Turnable or Seasonal Mattress

If your mattress is turnable:

  • Turn and rotate on alternate weeks for the first 12 weeks.

  • Thereafter rotate monthly.

  • Turn twice per year in line with winter/summer seasons.

A simple reminder is when the clocks change in spring and autumn.

Turning Zip & Link

  • Unzip before turning and rotate both mattresses together.

One-Piece Dual Firmness

  • To maintain your usual sleeping side, turn head-to-foot only.

General Usage Advice

  • Do not fold or roll the mattress.

  • Avoid jumping on the bed.

  • Electric blankets may be used with Harrison Spinks mattresses.
